Alzheimer's Disease

Alzheimer’s disease (AD) causes degeneration of the brain, which leads to progressive impairment of memory, thinking and behavior and is, inevitably, fatal. AD is the most common form of dementia, affecting >400,000 people in the UK, >5 million in the US and an estimated 26 million worldwide. There is no cure for AD. Current treatments provide only a temporary memory benefit, and they work in only about one-third of patients suffering from mild or moderate dementia. The good news is that research into new treatments is growing every year and hopes are high that new therapies that slow or halt the progression of AD will soon be available.
